Monthly Home School Pottery Group

Since February 2024, our home school pottery sessions have been a local favourite for young people aged 9–16. Originally run as private groups, we are excited to be opening these up to the wider home-educating community from September 2026.

These sessions are designed for deep learning. We prioritise teaching your children the proper skills of pottery, making use of our fully equipped city centre studio. To ensure students have the time to build, refine, fire, and glaze their pieces, we will be working in 3-month blocks.

Session Times: 2nd Friday of the month | 1:30-3:30pm

  • Block 1:

    • Sept 11 & Oct 9: Sculpture Techniques

    • Nov 13: Wheel Throwing & Glazing

  • Block 2:

    • Jan 8 & Feb 12: Slab Building & Structural Design

    • March 12: Wheel Throwing & Glazing

More dates to follow. Booking in clusters allows our students to see a project through from a lump of clay to a finished, glazed work of art.

Everything is provided for this course, and full instruction will be given throughout, suitable for beginners and experienced makers.

Suitable for ages 9-16.

Photos are all of previous projects from our home school groups.

If you have previously attended one of our groups we will cater it so you aren’t repeating projects.

Dress code: comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting messy, layers recommended as studio can get chilly, aprons provided.

Firings: the cost of firings is included in the course fee. We will do everything we can to avoid cracks/ explosions in the kiln but these things do (very) occasionally happen, we will always use mishaps as learning opportunities and help you understand how to prevent issues in other makes.

Missed sessions: there are no make up opportunities for missed sessions, we will make sure you catch up on the skills needed in subsequent sessions although it may not be possible to catch up on whole projects. There is no refund/ discount for missed sessions. Please notify us of any absences in advance.

if we ever need to cancel a session due to emergency circumstances we will refund you pro-rata for that session.

Behaviour: Disrespect to the staff, studio, equipment or other students will not be tolerated and you will not be able to return to the class - no refund will be given.

if you’d like to come and see the studio before you commit to a class, we run regular one off workshops - see ‘workshop’ page for details.

Hope to see you soon
