Autumn 1 Term: Sept 2 - Oct. 24 ( 2 Break Weeks: Sept 23 - 28 & Oct. 14 - 18)

This course is run as a 2-hour class per week on your selected day.
(i.e. each Monday or Tuesday or Thursday 7-9pm for 6 sessions, not Monday-Thursday.)

This course is not appropriate for under 16’s.

At a glance:

This course will be 6 weeks of taught lessons taking participants through the basics of making vessels using a potter’s wheel.

Students will learn how to operate a wheel to ‘throw’ cylinders, attach handles to produce mugs or small jugs, trim and turn (carving a footring & designs), and glaze pieces. We will also look at making small bowls.

For anyone wanting to continue with a further 6 weeks, we will at more complicated forms, such as bottles and lidded containers, and eventually teapots, with tuition given to improve throwing on all previous techniques covered.

Further info:

Firing Charges:

This class includes firing and glazing of your first 5 pots.

There are charges for each additional pot on top of this, to account for energy, packing, firing and glaze costs.

Charges are: £2 per mug or bowl.

Absences:

Because of flexibility and rescheduling needing to be reserved for absences relating to health/serious incidents, and the inherent challenges of working with pieces over several week periods, other absences (i.e. work disruption, holiday etc.) will not be able to be accommodated outside of your course. Because the classes look at a week by week progression it is important to try not to miss any sessions. Catch-up will be incorporated into the set nights booked.

It is unlikely there will be additional flexibility to switch nights of the week unless there is particularly low turn out on a specific evening. But as classes are generally full, there are typically no free spaces on other evenings.

Please check our cancellation policy.

Those wishing to continue may pursue a further 6 weeks to continue to develop their skills. After this point, those comfortable may be able to join the open-studio program to carry on working in untutored sessions. There is currently a waitlist for the open studio in the evenings, but availability in daytime slots.
