At a glance:
This course will be 6 weeks of taught lessons taking participants through the basics of making vessels using a potter’s wheel.
Students will learn how to operate a wheel to ‘throw’ cylinders, attach handles to produce mugs or small jugs, trim and turn (carving a footring & designs), and glaze pieces. We will also look at making small bowls.
Further info:
Absences:
Because of flexibility and rescheduling needing to be reserved for absences relating to health/serious incidents, and the inherent challenges of working with pieces over several week periods, other absences (i.e. work disruption, holiday etc.) will not be able to be accommodated outside the set practice times outlined at the beginning of your course. Because the classes look at a week by week progression it is important to try not to miss any sessions. Catch-up will be incorporated into the set nights booked. Covid/health absences will be given priority for any rescheduling.
It is unlikely there will be additional flexibility to switch nights of the week unless there is particularly low turn out on a specific evening.
Please check our cancellation policy.
Covid has made it so we now operate on a short-course format over 6-8 week periods. Those wishing to continue may pursue a further 6 weeks to continue to develop their skills.
Students will learn how to operate a wheel to ‘throw’ cylinders; attach handles to produce mugs or small jugs, trim and turn (carve a footring/designs into pots), and glaze pieces.
In a further 6 weeks, students will learn how more complicated forms, such as bottles and lidded containers, with tuition given to improve throwing on all techniques covered.
Firing Charges:
This class includes firing and glazing of your first 5 pots.
There are charges for each additional pot on top of this, to account for energy, packing, firing and glaze costs.
Charges are: £2 per mug or bowl.
