(6 Week Taught Course)

This course is for intermediate to advanced potters.

The class is for both throwers and handbuilders/sculptors. If you plan to use the wheel, you must have completed at least one 6-week course with us or, if you have taken a class elsewhere, we ask that you take a Saturday Wheel workshop with us, so we could assess whether this course is appropriate for you.

Handbuilders with prior experience elsewhere are welcome- we expect you to have completed a 6 week or equivalent handbuilding course, so that you know the basics.

If you are unsure if this class is appropriate for you, please come in and speak to us.

These sessions are for ages 16+.

7.00 pm - 9.00 pm

If sold out, please input your email (in the booking space) for notifications on openings resulting from cancellations/reschedules and upcoming terms.

THE COURSE DATES:

Tuesdays: 7pm-9pm

Summer: July 7 - Aug. 18 (Break Week: Aug. 11-14)

Because of Summer Holidays, we will have make-up/completion sessions running until Sept. 10.

This means that for this term only, we will have increased flexibility to account for missed sessions.

Please note there is a break for the week just before the final glazing session.

This course is run as a 2-hour class per week.

This course is not appropriate for under 16’s.

At a glance:

This course will be 6 weeks of mixed lessons and demos set to improve the skills of potters who are wanting to advance beyond basics and improve on what they already know. It’s good for potters that may have a goal in mind that you’d like to work towards, and aren’t quite getting there on your own, or maybe you feel like you’ve just entered a bit of a lull in your work and want a bit more direction in where to go next.

The course outline and objectives will be tailored to each potter individually, including setting up objectives and goals beyond the duration of the course. If you are an “open studio” member, we may check in and carry over aspects/exercises into those sessions if you like.

We will aim to have 2 unique demos per session, which you can tune into if you like, or carry on with your work independently if you prefer.
Some of these for example will be: Bottles, Lidded Containers, Teapots, Goblets, Throwing Off the Hump, Mixing and Pouring Plaster, Throwing Bigger, Coiling on Thrown Forms, Hollow Extrusion, etc.

As this is a mixed class, this means that as a thrower, you will also have the opportunity to learn how to use the extruder and slab roller, for example, and options for incorporating these into your work.

We will also look at the principles and importance of recycling, wedging, and use of plaster in the studio.
If your intention is to learn to throw larger, there will be more work expected of you re: wedging, recycling etc.

Firing Charges:

This class includes firing and glazing of your first 5 pots, or aprx. 1 foot cubed.

There are charges for additional pot on top of this, to account for energy, packing, firing and glaze costs.

Charges are: £2 per mug or bowl. Firings are measured in volume with a standard mug as our base unit. (i.e. if your sculpture/pot is the volume of 5 mugs it will be aprx. £10)

Absences:

Because of Summer Holidays, we will have make-up/completion sessions running until Sept. 10.
“Open Studio” members can carry on their work in their normal times if they wish.

This means that for this term only, we will have increased flexibility to account for missed sessions.

It is unlikely there will be additional flexibility to switch nights of the week unless there is particularly low turn out on a specific evening. But as classes are generally full, there are typically no free spaces on other evenings.

Please check our cancellation policy.

Final note: you will receive an order confirmation at the time of purchase, but there are no routine follow up emails. If you have any questions see our FAQ section.

If for any reason we needed to cancel/ amend the class we would be in touch asap.
