Large terracotta plant pot workshop
Large terracotta plant pot workshop
Come and make your own large terracotta plant pot Saturday 25th July 2026 11.00-4.00pm
During this 4-hour workshop you will be lead through the process of creating your own large terracotta plant pot using the traditional coiling technique.
There will be opportunities to add decorative sculptural and textural features during the session including stamps, plant pressings and sprig moulds. You will also be able to cut out windows like those in a strawberry planter. The finished pots will be dried and fired at the studio ready for collection 4-weeks after the workshop.
Our clay is the same as is used for standard commercial plant pots, it is porous after firing and therefore at risk of frost damage. You can protect favourite pots in the winter by keeping them dry.
There are no limitations on the size or shape of your finished pots other than the size of the kilns! There will be a 1 hour lunch break during the session, which will give you a break, and your pots a chance to firm up a little before the afternoon session.
This workshop will run:
11.00-1.00pm morning session
1hr break for lunch (note there are no kitchen or eating facilities on site but there are plenty of cafes and shops in the town centre around the studio and lots of nice outdoor spaces for eating on a nice day)
2.00-4.00pm afternoon session
You are welcome to create a totally free form pot, but we will provide a number of plant pot formers to build around. If there is a specific pot you are trying to emulate you’re welcome to bring it to use as a mould.
NOTE terracotta clay can stain clothes and shoes so please dress appropriately.
