This is a variation on our normal throwing on the wheel workshop. This workshop is specifically designed for children aged 9-16 who want to try using the wheel. There will be one wheel shared between an adult and a child who will alternate making pots on the wheel. 

In this 90 minute session participants are taken through the basics of operating an electric potter’s wheel and will learn to produce a few small pots for later collection. 

This is a great session for anyone who has children/ teenagers who have been wanting to try out the wheel or just for a bit of family fun.

This session is suitable for children and families, all participants must be aged at least 9 years old. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. 

Our throwing workshops are usually for people aged 16 years and older only, but we have adapted it for children/ families due to popular demand. We do not recommend you book onto this session if you are not part of a child/ family group as it has been adapted for a younger audience, is shorter and will not be as technically intensive as our usual Saturday workshops, which run twice monthly.

The session will include a 20-minute demonstration and approx. 1hour of throwing split between the adult and child. Participants must be able to concentrate on a task and reach the floor with their feet from a standard height chair. 

No children who are not participating can attend the session.

Pieces will be fired and glazed by the studio technician for collection 6 weeks after the session (This is to accommodate drying times, kiln firings [several days each] glazing and fitting into normal studio wares firing rotations). The firing and glazing of up to 4 pots are included in this session. Additional pieces can be purchased on the day for £2/pot.

All supplies are provided, including aprons. This is very messy so scruffy clothes and shoes are recommended, the clay does not stain clothes.
